Recently in we have been learning about tectonic plates and how land was formed. So we wrote a explanation for it.
One thing I think I did really well in my writing was how I explained the tectonic plate boundary movements, because when I checked with my buddy they could easily understand. One thing I found hard was writing the conclusion because I had troubles making a decision on how I should summarise my explanation. In the end I finished with the help of the example, and the success criteria.
I used the example by checking with it to see if it’s similar to the example, and I used the success criteria by making sure it had the things it asked for. Something that I should do next time is checking if I have any pronouns in my explanation, because sometimes I just forget.
Here’s my writing:
How The Land On Earth Was Formed?
Introduction:
Earth is a special planet that has many different and unique terrain. But have you ever started to wonder how unique terrain like: mountains, rifts, and trenches are formed? Well in this explanation you get to know how.
The Earth’s Layers:
To understand how the unique terrains are formed you first have to know the layers of the earth. First there are the crust, the upper mantle, the mantle, the outer core, and the inner core. The crust is the layer that people live on.
Tectonic Plates:
The tectonic plates are the reasons for unique land formation. The tectonic plates sit on top of the upper mantle, so every continent or country lay on the tectonic plates. If the tectonic plates move, it will strongly change the landforms. But different boundary movement creates different terrain, and there are 3 different types of boundary movements. All are: transform, convergent, and divergent.
Transform:
Transform is a type of boundary movement when two tectonic plates rub. When the tectonic plates do this it creates earthquakes.
Convergent:
Convergent type of boundary movement when two tectonic plates meet the other plate, coiled together. Neither of the tectonic plates is denser than the other so the tectonic plates both go up, and this normally makes a mountain range. It is famous for making the Southern Alps. In some cases when two tectonic plates meet the other plate the other goes underneath the other, because the other is denser. This is called: subduction, and this process makes trenches. It is famous for making the Mariana Trench.
Divergent:
Divergent is a type of tectonic plate boundary movement when two tectonic plates move away from the other. This type of boundary movement normally creates: rift valleys, and rifts. It is famous for forming the Rio Grande Rift.
Conclusion:
So the unique terrain on earth is created by the tectonic boundary movements. It can make and cause earthquakes, mountains, rifts and ect… All 3 different boundary movements make different things.
