Today I did the Aquatic Animal activities, and I chose to do a Jellyfish. More specifically, the purple-striped jelly, scientifically known as Chrysaora colorata. The reason why I chose to do a jellyfish is because I’ve always thought they were really cool. For example: jellyfishes were able to survive through five mass extinctions, including the Great Dying that wiped out up to 70% of life on Earth.
Three facts about the purple-striped jelly:
- The purple-striped jelly is more active in lively currents, which helps it move and catch prey.
- There is one type of purple-striped jelly, called Pelagia noctiluca, that is bioluminescent.
- The purple-striped jelly sting is very painful but not life threatening.
Here is my work:
What marine animal did you do/would do?
Kia Ora Nika,
This is Zana from the Summer Learning Journey. It is awesome to see you posting for this year’s Summer Learning Journey. Is this your first year or have you done it before?
What a fun activity, I like that all the activities this year focus on the same topic, the ocean, but have you complete different kinds of activities. Which activity has been your favourite so far?
I think your aquatic animal looks awesome and I like that you chose to create it on an online tool, do you think that was easier than creating it on paper. If I were to make my own aquatic animal I would probably do it on paper as I like painting.
I find jellyfish really interesting as well. I have been fortunate enough to swim with bioluminescent jellyfish in the Pacific and unfortunate enough to be stung by a Bluebottle in Australia. Have you ever seen a jellyfish in person?
I hope to see more posts from you!!
Ngā mihi nui,
Zana Yates
